Sustainability Initiatives

At the College of the North Atlantic, we are committed to developing and implementing sustainability initiatives to reduce the College’s environmental footprint. Sustainability is defined as the practice of providing for human life in a way that does not deplete the earth’s resources or destroy the environment

It is based on the simple principle of meeting the needs of the current generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. We are continuously working towards developing a culture of sustainability and these initiatives are just a few examples of how we are working to meet our sustainability goals.

In 2016, the College of the North Atlantic was recognized as a national leader in energy conservation when the Canadian College and Institute Facilities Management Association presented the College with a Double Gold award in the CCI CFI Energy and Sustainability Awards. The Double Gold award is the highest honor that can be received.

The award was in recognition of the College’s efforts to implement an energy management plan that has led to a reduction in energy consumption of over 40% since 1998 and saved the College $5 million in energy costs over the last five years.
