Sustainable food production through livestock health management

A literature review was conducted using the terms ‘livestock health’, ‘sustainable food production’ and ‘food security’. The search was restricted to English-language publications and grey literature. A total of 452 publications were identified and reviewed. The majority of the publications (75.2 %) focused on sustainable food production, while the others (24.8 %) addressed the issue of food security. A total of 26.3 % of the publications were from peer-reviewed journals, while the rest were from grey literature sources.
The main findings of the review showed that livestock health management practices can have a positive effect on the sustainability of food production. These practices can help to reduce the incidence of diseases, improve the productivity of livestock, and reduce the use of antibiotics and other chemicals. In addition, they can help to improve the quality of the food supply, and to reduce the environmental impact of livestock production.
